Our Story

Conceptualised in 2004 by Giovanni Jacovelli, the idea was soon brought to life by Australian friend and artist Bob Haberfield, and soon after in February 2005 the plating of the first Yew trees began.

At the time of its planting in 2005, Conwy Valley Maze was billed as the largest garden maze in the world, dwarfing Longleat and other world renowned mazes.

As you navigate the avenues through the Maze, you may suddenly find yourself wandering into one of the many garden spaces within… This concept of themed gardens within the maze seems to be something that may be unique to Conwy Valley Maze!

Giovanni Jacovelli started his career working in a garden centre, and soon moved on to designing and creating his own gardens all across North Wales and further afield. His distinct style of landscaping often incorporates Italianate and Japanese influence to give the spaces a unique feel.

Twenty years on from its planting, Conwy Valley Maze proves to be a mammoth task in its maintenance, keeping Giovanni, his wife Jane and son Enrico busy hedge trimming, weeding and mowing throughout the year!
